Resources
OGCR plays a critical role in the university’s external engagement. The office connects GW to the federal, district, and local governments and manages the university’s involvement with key external organizations critical to the university’s operations and community outreach.
We invite faculty and staff to explore how the Office of Government and Community Relations can support schools and departments below;
- Project and Event Collaboration:
If your school or faculty is planning a project or event in that involves a government official or entity, OGCR can provide advice and support for executing a successful partnership or event, and our office can help track GW of the impact.
- Contact Gabrielle Sosa ([email protected]) regarding projects involving the DC government.
- Contact Kevin Days ([email protected]) regarding collaboration with community groups.
- Contact Abby Paulson ([email protected]) regarding projects and events related to the federal government.
- Processing Advocacy Requests:
Disciplinary associations, advocacy groups, and higher education coalitions frequently ask institutions to sign letters or participate in advocacy actions. To sign GW onto one of these letters or to align the university with an advocacy activity, the request must undergo a review process by leadership.
Disciplinary associations and professional groups frequently arrange Capitol Hill advocacy days to highlight research funding needs and programs of importance to the university. If faculty, staff, or students wish to participate in these events, please contact Abby Paulson ([email protected]).
- Sharing Policy-Relevant Research:
Our federal and local partners are often eager to learn more about the research done at GW. If students and faculty are interested in sharing their research with policymakers please contact our office, we are ready to help.
- Gift Giving Rules:
OGCR offers assistance and guidance on how to navigate rules governing gift-giving to different governmental bodies.
- Legislative Monitoring and Lobbying:
The OGCR serves as technical experts on policy and regulatory matters that impact Higher Education, and provides recommendations and advocacy as appropriate. Contact Gabrielle Sosa ([email protected]) to be added to OGCR's Legislative Tracker, which is used as a central hub to keep GW internal stakeholders appraised of Federal, State, and District legislative and regulatory policies we are watching.
- Sharing Your Stories:
OGCR publishes its annual civic engagement report, GW Serves, that highlights the University’s community impact in the DMV and beyond. If you have an exciting project or initiative that contributes to making a positive impact in the world, we are eager to hear it. To share your story and have it included in a future issue of GW Serves, please contact Kevin Days ([email protected]).Accordion content.
