Community Relations

Foggy Bottom/West End Housing

The George Washington University values our location in the nation’s capital, as well as the relationships with our community.

As an urban campus, GW celebrates being embedded in D.C. life and culture.  The university is committed to supporting the vitality of the District by being a positive and civically engaged partner throughout the city. We take particular pride in being an anchor institution in the Foggy Bottom/West End and Fox Hall/Palisades neighborhoods. GW believes that as a neighborhood institution, it is committed to sharing our rich cultural, intellectual and physical resources with our neighbors whenever it is possible. We love collaborating with our neighbors, and encourage community members to visit our expanded Neighborhood Website  to take full advantage of everything GW has to offer. This online portal is intended to highlight information that neighbors of GW might find useful and interesting. Community members can also sign up for our Foggy Bottom or Mount Vernon Campus bi-weekly Newsletters to receive news from the university, including messages from leadership and staff, updates about GW operations, including GW Health and Safety bulletins, invites to Community Events and general local community information.

Community Relations is a university-wide commitment and requires extensive departmental collaboration across the campus. From student affairs to safety teams, and architects to campus planners, community relations are ingrained and woven closely in the fabric of the George Washington University. The  Honey W. Nashman Center supports the diverse ways GW faculty and students contribute to the community, including direct service; community engagement through courses, practice, or research that create a public benefit; policy and governance; philanthropy; social innovation; and community organizing and activism.

In addition to promoting collegial relationships and dialogue among the university, neighbors, D.C. government and others, the office also serves as the central intake point for community issues, and works to ensure a timely and effective response. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of help or a resource.
